Galvanized: Buffing the Way to Victory - Legacy

If I were to explain who Legacy is to someone who had no prior knowledge of the character, I would say that Legacy is what happens when you combine Captain America and Superman into one person.

Unlike what you’d expect of such a character, Legacy’s main strength comes from increasing hero damage and supporting the other heroes in your team. And he’s amazing at it. In fact, Legacy is so awesome that he’s one of my all-time favorite Sentinels to play as.

First, let’s take a look at his “base power.” As a quick reminder, a “base power” is a power innate to a hero located on their character card. You can use these during the “power phase” of your turn.

The “red box” in the picture is Legacy’s base power.

Base Power - Galvanize: "Until the start of your next turn, increase damage dealt by heroes by 1."

Rating: 5 / 5 - Galvanize is easily one of the best base powers in the game. The object of “Sentinels of the Multiverse” is to reduce the main villain’s HP to 0. So it stands to reason that the more damage you do, the faster you beat the villain.

“Galvanize” lets Legacy increase each hero’s damage output by 1, meaning that they’re dealing 1 extra damage each time they attack. 1 extra damage may not seem like much, but given the fact that Sentinels is not a game one finishes quickly that extra + 1 damage quickly adds up over time. So in other words, Galvanize is a key to beating villains efficiently.

Another important note is that pretty much all of the most challenging villains have some type of ability or card that reduces the amount of damage that they take. In these scenarios, Legacy becomes vital as he’ll be the main reason why you’re even able to deal damage to these enemies at all.

Card Guide
For the next post or two, I will be evaluating each and every card in Legacy’s deck and will then rate each card on a scale from 1 - 5. Before I show the scale there's one thing I want to make abundantly clear:

I am only comparing Legacy's cards to themselves. I am not comparing Legacy's cards to any other hero's cards. This scale is designed to show how useful Legacy's cards are within the context of his deck.

Here’s the rating scale and what it means:

- 5 / 5: A must-use card. Cards with a 5 / 5 rating are the best cards in the hero's deck. If you're playing as this hero it would be foolish not to use these.

- 4 or 4.5 / 5: These are cards you're most likely going to use a lot. They have a few more drawbacks than a 5 / 5 card, but they’re still pretty good overall.

- 3 or 3.5 / 5: This means one of two things:

  1. Moderately Useful: The card is decent, but not super useful. It’s nice to have but you can go an entire game without using it and you won’t be missing much.

2.  Mixed Bag: The card’s pros and cons are roughly equal. Usage of these cards needs to be taken on a case-by-case basis and considered carefully.

- 2.5 / 5 or below: These cards are not very good. They have major drawbacks and their usefulness is limited at best.

  1. My opinion is that Legacy is almost too boring for anyone other than a new player to run; if wanting to add his potency to a hard-to-win fight, I generally figure on having myself or someone else play both him and another similarly simple-to-run hero (this list consists approximately of the following sequence: The Wraith, Ra, Tachyon, Tempest, and maybe the Visionary, with The Knight from the Cauldron added right behind Wraith if that's an option). The fact that you almost always spend your power on Galvanize, and frequently play a card that does nothing but provide a passive defensive buff or maybe draws you a card, means that I nearly always feel as though playing Legacy isn't really doing anything, just including an extra target in the game which might as well be a fully automated "ally" deck like the Environment. The very rare cases when this hasn't been my Legacy experience are memorable, but too infrequent to make this an invalid generalization.

    1. Oh, and also Ex-Patriette is extremely easy, probably more so than Tempest. But she's the only post-core hero I can think of where this is true (disclaimer: I haven't seen the individual Sentinels, or Stuntman and Benchmark).
